Our annual lobby day onMay 5th attracted some sixty- five people who attended the luncheon and over 200 dealers, legislators and legislative staffers who attended the Legisla- The event was co-sponsored by CVR and Federated Insur- ance . Speaking at the event included: IADA Chairman Dave Taylor , Bourbonnais; House Republican Leader JimDurkin , R, Western Springs; RichMiller , Author of the popular Capitol Fax Political Newsletter; and Kelly Personette , American Fidelity, whose topic included the Affordable Healthcare Act, and dealer compliance activity which needs to be implemented this year. The session also included an update on the latest legal and regulatory issues impacting dealerships, provided by IADA Legal Counsel Larry Doll ; and a legislative briefing by IADA Legislative Representative Joe McMahon , on dealer issues ad- dressed during the Spring Legislative Session. Members were encouraged at the end of the sessions to visit the Capitol and meet with lawmakers. Comptroller Leslie Geissler Munger made a special appearance and met with several dealer members attend- ing the conference. IADA Chairman Dave Taylor expressed the importance of grassroots lobbying to IADA’s success in the Legislature, es- pecially in defeating the repeal of the Sunday Closing Law this session! Despite the dealer success and the lack of support for his position, Senator Oberweis has told IADA that he will once again introduce these bills next session. He is definitely on a mission to repeal this law which has been in place for over thirty years. Next year will be his third attempt on his personal crusade to open dealerships on Sundays. IADA would like to thank deal- ers and their employees for their calls, e-mails and notes to their legislators on this issue. If you happen to see your legislator during the summer, please continue to educate them on Sunday Closing — your input makes all the difference. Busy Spring for Association Legislative Activities tive Reception/BBQ held at the IADA offices overlooking the state capitol.
